Natural Gas Safety

Natural gas is one of the safest and most reliable fuels available. Rarely does a mechanical failure or storm interrupt its dependable delivery. At Pines Gas, we continuously monitor our pipeline system to ensure safe and efficient delivery of natural gas to your home. For your protection, a mild odorant has been added to natural gas so that you can detect even the slightest amount in the air.

Physical and Chemical Properties of Natural Gas:

Natural gas is colorless and odorless.
Natural gas is primarily methane, with small amounts of other hydrocarbons.
Natural gas is non-toxic.
Natural gas is lighter than air. If it escapes, it will rise and dissipate.
Natural gas is clean-burning. When burned with the correct amount of air, it produces heat, carbon dioxide and water vapor.

Call Before You Dig

Before you dig, it is important to have all utility lines that run through your yard located to prevent damage and disruption of service and to ensure safety is maintained. If you are planning to dig more than 16 inches deep, state law requires that you call 811 to request the utilities in your yard be located at no cost to you. If you fail to call before you dig, you may be responsible for the costs to repair damage lines and/or reconnect service.

Pines Gas Employees

Our employees will be wearing shirts with the Pines Gas or SiEnergy logo embroidered on it. Pines Gas employees should be allowed access to the gas meter at all times for reading, maintenance, testing or replacement. For our employees’ safety, please secure your pets away from meters.

Excess Flow Valves

An excess flow valve is a safety device which significantly reduces the flow of gas whenever there is a break in the service line.
Excess flow valves are designed to prevent gas buildup thus reducing the potential for fire or explosion whenever a service line break occurs.
Pines Gas began installing excess flow valves on all residential service lines in 2000.
If your home or business was built prior to 2000 and does not currently have an excess flow valve, Pines Gas can schedule to install one on your service line at no installation or maintenance cost.
To install the excess flow valve, we will need to gain access to your yard where we will excavate a portion of the service line and install the valve. Your service will be interrupted for a brief period but we will restore service once you are home.
If your home or business has a load that exceeds 1,000 standard cubic feet per hour an excess flow valve may not be available.
Due to certain operations characteristics and gas makeup, some locations may not be eligible for excess flow valves.

Extreme Weather Emergency

Pines Gas is committed to the safety and health of our customers. We adhere to the Extreme Weather Directives of the Texas Railroad Commission to ensure that service is maintained during severe weather events.

COVID Safety

The health and safety of our employees and customers is of the utmost importance to Pines Gas. We are closely monitoring the situation surrounding COVID-19 in the communities we serve throughout the State of Texas. Following is a list of actions our employees are taking as recommended by the CDC and other health agencies.

Avoid touching face
Cough or sneeze into elbow.
Stay at home when sick

In addition to the CDC recommendations, we have also implemented a non-critical travel ban policy and work from home policy. As a distributed workforce Pines Gas has a tested and proven system which allows all our employees to work remotely while maintaining the quality of safety and service you expect.
